Heroes are rare in this world. But Captain Scott O'Grady is certainly in their ranks. His book Return With Honor, coauthored with Jeff Coplon, tells the story of his dangerous quest to survive and escape Bosnia.
This is a story of O'Grady's journey, from a bright-eyed student in Air Force pilot training school, to becoming the pilot of an F-16, a lethal killing machine, straight out of science fiction.
As part of the NATO mission to attempt to mitigate the ethnic warfare in the Balkans, he was forced to fly over hostile ground.
A lucky shot destroyed his plane, and forced Captain O'Grady to eject, right into the middle of a country that would like nothing better than to kill an American enemy that they knew was conveniently vulnerable.
(Pictured is the forbidding Bosnian terrain.)
Throughout his trial, he leaned on his faith, his love for his family, and his determination to survive. This is an inspiring book, a fusion of both adventure and biography genre.
Genre: Biography, Adventure, Non-fiction,
Rating(1-5): 4 stars
(The story is excellent in plot and moral, especially since it is true. However, the writing style isn't quite as good as I'd like.)
Content (1-10): 7 (This is a story about a man in a life or death situation. Captain O'Grady is in a war zone. However, despite the intensity, the level of violence is pretty low, and mainly describes in little detail what happened to others.)
Age Level: 16-Adult
